As a professional licensed counselor, I offer a holistic approach to my patients who have treatment-resistant conditions or feel as if traditional therapy does not help them address their issues. Many of these patients feel hopeless and have given up on most counselors.
When I introduce myself, I often discuss the benefits of Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) for my patients. Many have found that KAP provides a safe environment to process trauma and pain, leading to new perspectives and improved mental health. No condition is untreatable, but some require a more comprehensive approach. For these patients, it's important to understand the interlink between the body, mind, and spirit. KAP can provide temporary relief of psychological defenses, allowing patients to change their mindset and improve their overall wellness.
I have found that administering a low dose of ketamine to my patients before their therapy sessions can help them delve deeper into their psyche, promoting greater self-reflection and mental processing. When used in low doses, ketamine has been proven to be a safe method for patients to connect with their inner emotions and become more aware of their ingrained thought patterns.
The effects of ketamine, which most patients find pleasant, last for approximately 45 minutes. These effects can make you feel “far from” your body, and facilitate shifts in perception that can often feel expansive in nature. Your motor and verbal abilities will be reduced, so you’ll be lying down in a comfortable position during the experience.
Once the immediate effects of your experience subside, we will devote the remainder of our session to creating a comfortable and non-judgmental space for you to explore and process your thoughts and feelings. As your guide, I am able to assist patients in identifying negative patterns of behavior and creating new neural pathways that support positive thinking and behavior. Through our discussions, we will work together to develop effective strategies and coping mechanisms that will help you overcome your challenges and achieve your goals.
As we continue working together in our sessions, patients gradually become more in tune with their emotions and gain a deeper understanding of how to manage them effectively. I strive to help patients cultivate a sense of mindfulness and self-awareness, which enables them to recognize their emotions as they arise and respond to them in a healthy manner.
This includes teaching patients techniques for regulating their emotions, such as deep breathing exercises, meditation, and cognitive-behavioral therapy. By developing these skills, patients can avoid falling into negative behavioral patterns that may have previously hindered their ability to achieve wellness.
In general, most of my patients have found the insights gained from Ketamine-assisted therapy to be useful and long-lasting. This type of therapy has shown promising results in treating conditions that are resistant to traditional treatments, by reducing negative behavioral patterns such as anxiety, depression, and compulsive habits. This holistic approach has been found to provide effective relief to my patients.
